Mangere Project Update
The contract with Wilkran Construction (2014) Ltd started in mid April and is now scheduled to be completed by the Christmas / New Year holidays. The biggest holdups have been caused by volcanic rock being encountered throughout the building area and delays created by Spark and 2 Degrees with the re-location of their antennas plus the normal coordination issues with consultants, suppliers and sub-contractors .
Additional work and costs have been caused by trying to match the new construction with the existing buildings and amenities, and keeping the disruption of our normal activities to a minimum. The building progress was also hampered by the current very high level of construction activity in the Auckland region and some extremely bad weather at critical times. Overall, the Building Sub - Committee have been very pleased with the cooperative attitude, skills and expertise of the management and staff of the building contractor and the architects.
The fundraising programme was an outstanding success and the ACCC Executive Committee are very pleased with the very strong community spirit shown by many of the older members of our local Chinese community and friends to contribute almost $300,000 for this extension project . I wish to express my personal gratitude to all those who made generous donations and gave strong support to improve the Mangere facilities for the benefit of our future generations.
In addition, thanks solely to the extensive work done by David Wong, we received $258,000 from grants, making the total funds raised of $560,650.
